SERVICES

Town Planning View projects

Barton Willmore is the largest Town Planning consultancy in the UK.
The Practice offers planning guidance to clients from all sectors of the development industry - private landowners to local authorities, national corporate organisations to local businesses and on developments of all types and scales - to guide projects from concept to completion. We offer a personal, high quality consultancy service to clients, facilitating selection of the optimum service to meet their needs, whether choosing to use the services of the local office to their region or draw specialist or personal advice from any member of the Practice, wherever they are located.
Our integrated Planning and Design disciplines enable our teams to identify and understand the wider implications of their advice and the need for a fully integrated approach to development in order to produce deliverable, cost effective and sustainable solutions.

Landscape View projects

Our Landscape Planning & Design teams offer a unique combination of services to support projects at any stage of the development process, assisting the planning process from feasibility through to implementation and delivering realistic and dynamic landscape design solutions. Public realm within an urban environment creates space for living, interaction and play. Considered natural environments create and enhance habitats, provide flood defences and allow the built environment to integrate into the natural. Our Designers are constantly looking into new approaches and techniques to ensure the delivery and long term maintenance of high quality outdoor spaces.
Alongside this respected design service our Landscape Planning team can provide a comprehensive Visual Impact Assessment and Expert Witness service for Appeal or Inquires.

Environmental Consultancy View projects

Growth in European legislation has led to Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) becoming fundamental within a wide variety of projects. The service we provide secures a detailed, accurate and objective analysis of a project, appraising its effect on the environment and, where necessary, proposing creative mitigation measures for development of all types and scales.
Our Environmental team can also coordinate the completion of Sustainability Appraisals and Health Impact Assessments to support project applications.

Masterplanning View projects

From large scale inner city regeneration to urban extensions and the creation of new communities, we provide everything from conceptual proposals, to Urban Design strategies and Development Frameworks, all based upon analysis, evaluation and engagement.
Our Masterplanning & Urban Design teams bring a wide range of skills and knowledge to projects, enabling us to secure the delivery of imaginative and commercially viable, design-led solutions that benefit the investor and the wider community. We are accomplished in providing distinctive and sustainable developments that are based on a firm understanding of integration into existing movement networks, the current landscape or the surrounding urban fabric.
In 2006 our London team began working on overseas projects, specifically exporting our expertise in sustainable communities into new markets. For further information on Barton Willmore International's activities please click here

Graphic Design View projects

Communication is a vital part of ensuring project success. The production of high quality technical publications within the property industry are fundamental in seeking to make development proposals more accessible to all stakeholders and participants within a project. Our Graphic Design team regularly develop eye-catching and engaging documentation, websites and exhibitions including key design documents such as Design & Access Statements or Design Code guidance.
Our Graphic Design team also offers an independent external service, working directly with external clients to deliver branding, corporate documentation or website design as required.

Architecture View projects

Originally established as an Architectural Practice over 70 years ago, Barton Willmore has a strong design-led approach throughout all disciplines. Our Architectural teams combine high quality, innovative and sustainable design with extensive commercial awareness. Each member of staff is skilled at guiding developments of all types, from contemporary residential schemes to the refurbishment of listed buildings or development of major integrated urban regeneration schemes.

Our services extend from undertaking Feasibility Studies and achieving detailed permissions to carrying out full service commissions on large, complex schemes, supporting clients in all sectors and of all sizes. With our skills and expertise, we combine award-winning designs and developments with maximising clients’ financial return on their investment – an achievement and balance that ensures the development of many long term client relationships.

Cost Consultancy View projects

The journey of a project from its initial conception to the laying of the final brick on site is often a complex process. Sound cost control is at the heart of a successful project. Our Cost Consultants advise on the total construction cost of a project from the earliest budget cost plans to the detailed analysis of the final account with the Main Contractor. In essence, we assume the total financial management of clients’ projects and provide the ‘safe pair of hands’ that is fundamentally important for the consultant managing the project’s construction-related finances.

Project Management View projects

Our Project Managers have all the requisite skills and experience to steer any project through the design and construction phases, ensuring a satisfactory outcome and the delivery of all our clients’ key objectives. We advise on the most appropriate procurement options for the specific project, the forms of contract to be adopted, make recommendations for interim payments, provide financial status reports at regular intervals and provide taxation analyses.

Southwater will create a genuinely urban mixed-use quarter with a high quality public realm to kick start the environmental and economic regeneration of the town. At the heart of the proposals Southwater Square will provide a major new civic space for the town. Flexible in function the square will be surfaced in contemporary brick and cast iron evocative of Telford’s rich industrial past.

Bargoed Town Centre

The former mining town of Bargoed has suffered since the closing of its colliery during the 1970s. At the heart of the regeneration proposals a new market square, on the site of the existing bus station, gives the town a new focus, a space for events, the town’s emerging market and even the Christmas Tree. The new space forms the focus of a town wide public realm strategy.

Golden Square, Birmingham

The design for Golden Square, a major new space at the heart of Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter, explores innovative spatial ideas that empower the community. Moveable interlocking furniture provides a flexible space to accommodate both a ‘chat with friends’ and large performances. The square’s surface is richly patterned with a series of metal hoops, which draw on the creative and manufacturing heritage of the Jewellery Quarter.

In the rapidly evolving London Docklands our proposals for Poplar focus on the creation of a major new public square. This lively new space will form a key stepping stone on a pedestrian route from the deprived district of Poplar to Canary Wharf south of the site. The new space has been designed to meet the needs of the wider community and complement existing public spaces in the borough.

South Acton Estate Regeneration

The landscape proposals for the regeneration of the South Acton Estate boldly reformat the existing, unstructured open space into a series of connected urban parks. Each of these parks has a clearly defined function, designed to meet the needs of the diverse adjacent community. Food growing areas, skate parks and bowls greens are all carefully stitched into the new landscape structure.

Landscape – Parks & Gardens

Chester Zoo, Chester

A legible and immersive landscape was the brief given by the North West England Zoological Society to our Landscape Designers. A new pedestrian circulation route in the form of a ‘linear park’ provides the structure to this ambitious new masterplan. This route threads through a series of themed ecotope landscape zones populated by mixed species and animal enclosures, enhancing both the visitor experience and welfare of the animals.

Golden Square is a major urban space at the heart of the Birmingham Jewellery Quarter. We worked closely with our Landscape Designers to develop this engaging competition submission for the revitalisation of the square into a key destination. A contemporary feel to the graphics and brand were essential and icons were one of the quick visual methods we utilised in order to communicate the potential dynamic uses for the space.

First Tuesday Club

We were recently commissioned by this networking club, to create a new identity and logo. The graphics convey a warm, friendly and approachable organisation while the use of a tagline clearly outlines the aim of the group and anchors the logo itself. The logo reflects the 12 annual meetings of the club and uses a contemporary font to update the organisation.

Working alongside our Urban Design group our Graphic Designers produced a set of exhibition boards for three consultation meetings to discuss the proposed regeneration of this Estate near Grimsby. The exhibition was designed to promote discussion with key questions being highlighted alongside the photography, plans and sketches. The meetings were set up to help the community become more involved in their estate and the development. The ambition for the site was to create a modern housing showpiece and the boards were designed to demonstrate this fresh and vibrant approach. We achieved this goal by liberal use of bright, fresh colour, a modern typeface and a layout that highlighted the key information.
