Our team have secured planning for a 67,000 sq ft office development with retail space and a public square, breathing new life into the heart of Whitehaven.
Approved by Copeland Borough Council, the new harbourside scheme for EROS Properties has the potential to create up to 400 new full-time office jobs as well as generating £18.4 million per annum to the local economy.
Designed by PRP Architects, the building’s modern appearance draws on precedents from Whitehaven’s Georgian architecture and the new public square includes high quality landscaping and outdoor seating, providing an attractive new destination for workers, tourists and the people of Whitehaven to enjoy.
Senior Planner Hannah Walker said: “It is important that investment in Whitehaven goes beyond the North Shore and this is evidenced in the regeneration of the Quay Street site with the new office scheme. The redevelopment of this key site in the town centre will not only contribute significantly to the local economy, but it will also create a substantial number of jobs and enhance Whitehaven’s reputation as the destination of choice for executive office accommodation in Cumbria.”
The scheme takes advantage of views across Whitehaven harbourside, with the inclusion of an outdoor roof terrace. The fourth floor has been purposely set back to reflect the height of neighbouring buildings and to improve the setting of the neighbouring Chapel.
Delivering this high-quality office development will help the Council realise their aspirations to boost economic growth in Whitehaven, Copeland and West Cumbria. It will also allow the region to build on their existing economic strengths to create a highly skilled workforce across a varied economic base.
