Regional awards celebrating projects and people who have helped create exceptional places and improved the lives of those who live and work there have recognised Somerdale, a new scheme in Bristol that our planning, masterplanning, architecture, landscape and graphic communication teams worked on. A complex, sensitive and politically charged project the Bristol Planning team coordinated and managed 19 consultants to ultimately secure planning permission and managing all the complexities associated with it.
RTPI South West Awards for Planning Excellence 2019, shortlisted the old Somerdale Cadbury’s Factory, which has been transformed into a liveable, mixed use neighbourhood and employment hub with a thriving, diverse new community.
Steeped in history and loved by locals, the redevelopment of the old Somerdale Cadbury’s Factory in the historic market town of Keynsham was a high profile, politically sensitive project which has delivered a high-quality, successful new neighbourhood and a valuable legacy for the local community.
The 90ha site saw the completion of a new neighbourhood of high-quality homes, surrounded by walkable, permeable streets and open spaces, with green corridors and riverside walks to open countryside beyond. It also includes 100,000sq ft of high-quality office space which will create over 2,000 jobs, of which circa 1,000 jobs are associated with the operational development, such as two schools, a doctor’s surgery, Somerdale Pavilion and the Chocolate Quarter care home.
Our team below will be attending the awards in November, wish us luck!
