Joanna Burton

Heritage Director

Jo joined Barton Willmore in 2017.  She has significant private sector experience through her previous role as Head of Heritage at an independent planning consultancy and public sector experience in a regional Planning and Development Team at Historic England.

Jo provides specialist advice to assist with development proposals affecting heritage assets, from land promotion of large-scale strategic sites through to detailed changes required to highly graded heritage assets.  Jo acts nationwide on development impacting on a wide range of heritage assets with projects of varying scale, including regeneration sites in town centres, tall building proposals and rural development.  She is well versed in assessing heritage significance and impact together with constructing a robust evidence base to support planning and listed building consent applications, with experience in preparing Statements of Significance, Heritage Impact Assessments, Cultural Heritage Environmental Statements and expert written and oral evidence to public inquiries.

Jo holds an MPhil in Medieval History and an MSt in Interdisciplinary Design for the Built Environment from the University of Cambridge.  She is a full member of the IHBC and sits on the regional committee.
