Our team secured planning permission in January 2018 for a 13,500 sqm new regional distribution centre for the Headlam Group, the UK’s leading floor covering distributors on a 3.63 hectare site close to junction to the north of Ipswich.
- 13,500 sqm
- 80 jobs
- Tall building immediately adjacent to a conservation area
The proposal posed many challenges as the client required a bespoke building, operating 24 hours a day, with a ridge height of 15m to store the rolls of carpets and floor coverings. The location was immediately adjacent to a conservation area so landscape, noise and lighting impacts had to be mitigated to protect the amenity of the settlement of Whitton. The additional employment opportunities for Ipswich were key in demonstrating that the proposals would protect and enhance the setting of the conservation area without having a harmful impact on the highway safety, residential amenity or biodiversity of the locality.
