We were appointed 23 years ago by Persimmon Homes to regenerate one of the largest brownfield sites in the South West, Ashlands, to provide a thriving community, reviving Portishead’s industrial heartland.
This new community has literally risen from the ashes as part of a wider regeneration of the industrial docks and now comprises of 4,300 new homes, a new marina, district centre, shops, cafes as well a 40 hectare nature reserve, play areas and open spaces.
Our vision, to create a place with a distinctive character and sense of place, was one of the first communities in the country to be created with a much more design-focused approach, responding to design guidance from CABE. This focus on good urban design and place making is clearly evident today in the high-quality streets, spaces and places throughout the entire development.
