The site is owned by Toyoko Inn, who has recently acquired sites in other major City Centres within the UK. It is considered that the proposed redevelopment will offer a distinctive product in the Manchester hotel market, which would add value to the existing offer in the City. The proposed scheme will deliver a high-quality building on what is currently a ‘gap site’, bringing a Grade II Listed Building back into active use.
The proposal is for a new 390 bed hotel within a new 26 storey (+roof plant) building and refurbishment of the former Union Bank building (Grade II Listed Building). It also incorporates both front of house facilities such as reception, meeting rooms and bar/restaurant alongside ancillary services such as offices, kitchens, stores and sub-station.
These project objectives are summarized as follow:
- Establish an appropriate form and massing development on the site in townscape and urban design terms.
- To reflect a considered approach and sensitive response to the adjoining Listed Building .
- Activate the ground floor streetscape
